Over my lifetime I've had at least eight dogs. A couple I had to give away, most died of old age, a few touched me deeply in their loyalty and absolute obedience. Most were fun and always wanted to play, get their belly rubbed and begged for treats.
The current head of my household is a black Lab who awaits my wife in the morning and is at her side all day long, far into the night. He is mine in the early morning when nature calls or those morning jaunts down the street to the local dog park.
Last week we had decided to adopt another dog, much smaller from a family that couldn't give him the care he needed. Sadly, before we had the scheduled pick up, he passed away. Somethings were not meant to be. There is a lot to learn from dogs and if you listen and spend time with them they have much wisdom. Meanwhile we still have Stan hanging by our feet, loyal as ever. So no playmate for Stan, for now.
